With air quality in Delhi falling to “poor” levels, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) conducted inspections at construction sites, issuing fines of ₹50,000 per violation for non-compliance with dust mitigation protocols.
Amidst consistently poor Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in recent days, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 1 was activated on Tuesday in an effort to curb pollution.
According to an NDMC statement on Wednesday, inspection teams have been deployed at construction sites to enforce dust control measures, issuing a total of 30 fines, each valued at ₹50,000 (₹15 lakh overall), in line with National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines.
The civic body has initiated various actions to reduce air pollution, with violators facing penalties issued by dedicated inspection teams. Additionally, the Public Health Department has imposed 290 fines totaling ₹48,747 for violations involving public hygiene, waste management, littering, single-use plastics, and burning of waste in public areas.
